Out Smith. In Sam Blackman from Margate. Welcome Sam. OK I know I am not in Kent anymore but how can david Smith who scored 30 odd goals and goes to Bromley (was a fee involved  ), comes back and does Ok and gets binned. Please explain to an oick who doesn't get this, but perhaps his interplay was off which I wouldn't know as dont see games anymore in person as I did for 15 yrs. Cheers keith |

Reading between the lines of the social media posts it appears that it’s entirely David Smith’s decision given how the club had previously announced he was retained for next season.

Cheers keith If you had read the article on the website you would have seen he was offered terms, which he accepted so you should draw your own conclusion from that as to why he has left. Also a post on here recently was saying we lacked pace upfront with Smith and Derry so that might be a plus in his replacement. |

I think we all know what you get with Dave Smith: he's a penalty box player, great one-touch finisher, but doesn't have a lot else to his game; in past seasons, when we've been a front foot team, creating a lot of chances, he scored a lot of goals; most of them were from inside the six yard box, but he did have that knack of anticipating things and being in the right place at the right time to get those tap-ins. The season just gone was a bit different and he wasn't as effective - I don't think his and Tom Derry's games ever really gelled. So, although it's always a shame to see familiar faces go (not many left now...), and whoever Dave signs for will be glad to have him, I don't think it's the end of the world by any means, and if, as "Statto" suggests, we end up with someone quicker and more mobile to get on the end of balls played through, that would probably be for the better. |

I'm wondering whether, because I can, I should continually modify the title of this thread to reflect the developing squad situation: so far I make it five in (inlcuding Dean Rance, who was already here), eleven out - although I'm not sure as it's hard to keep up.
Obviously, still a lot more to happen ahead of our pre-season games.

Folkestone are clearly making a statement with all of these signings, all a decent standard. Not just players to make the numbers up as has happened in the past.
Next season is already looking promising and I'm sure there's still more to come.

In terms of reputation, clubs played for, leagues played in, probably the "biggest" signing we have made for a long time. If he's fit and hungry (not talking about tapas), then has to be a good signing.
