Joking aside, I think it's good that we're making the signings now (still a few to go before we have a full squad) - and they have just about all played at a good level. Last year we went into pre-season with with too many triallists and some positions still weren't really sorted when the real stuff kicked off; I don't think we really recovered from that and, to be fair to Andy Drury, he was having to scratch around and plug gaps almost till the end of the season; we didn't really have a settled side until the last few games. I'm beginning to feel some optimism for the coming season; I'm not sure why, as it's still about a month to the first pre-season game: I guess it's just because I'm a glass half-full kind of person

Phonetically there’s only hwan hwan , innit. Let’s hope there’s more to his game than simple tapas in from two yards!😁 Welcome to the San Sebastián of the Kent coast Joan. Is he still with us? Not seen anything in pre season (although not been looking too hard)

FIFC Twitter doesn't work properly here on the Riviera, not for me anyway. I was wondering why no mention of Senor Luque in Gerry's match reports. So, has he left us with hardly a kick of a ball, or am I putting 2 and 2 together and making 5?

I’m sure things will become clear in the next couple of days. Stumpy the seasons are being posted but they have a problem with the barcodes.

Good player John but....did not seem overly interested and reflected in his efforts on the pitch.

Thanks Gerry. Just as well he's gone then. Begs the question why did he sign/why did we sign him in the first place?

The reasons behind this were talked about at the game on Saturday. Not right for me to air them here, but they put Juan's departure in context and no blame attaches to anyone, player or club.

I reckon we're more likely to sign Nicki Minaj than George Nikaj

Sad to say James that I had to google the name in order to find that she’s not a wing back from Dunstable!😀

Where does that come from, Gazza?
From some of the things Andy Drury has said in recent interviews I got the impression that Matt Young and Josh Chambers were out of favour, maybe Franky Morgan too. If that's the case, I'm not sure why - they've hardly had a chance to show what they can do and all three have looked OK to me when they have been on. Unusually for me, I've actually been to all of our league games so far, apart from Wingate and Finchley, which will probably be replayed, and I'm a tad concerned. The only one that you can say we bossed was at Hastings - we were good and they were poor. Dover, great night, but actually Dover probably had more of the game and more chances than us. But the three home games have been pretty dismal, we didn't look like winning any of them and the stats - 1 goal scored, five conceded and three times as many red cards as goals, speak for themselves.
When we play at home teams are going to defend in numbers, as Billericay did first half on Saturday, and so playing long ball, as we have in all three home games, is going to get us absolutely nowhere - long ball is something you can use in certain situations, when things have opened up after the oppo have lost the ball in an attacking situation, but it can't be plan A, any half decent defence will deal with it all day long, as we have seen. We didn't play it at Hastings or Dover, so why do we play it at home? Is it because the team doesn't have the pace/energy to play passing football? Is it dictated by having an immobile centre-forward whose only asset is his heading ability. I don't know, I only know it isn't working and isn't likely to. We've got some good players - Dan Smith is excellent, Evans Kouassi would be fine if he got more support so that most of the time his only option is to try to beat two or more defenders because he's got nobody to pass to? Why, at any given moment, does only one of our midfielders get up to join the attack? Why do we only attack down one flank so that we never stretch the opposition defence? Why are so many of our players standing still instead of giving the ball carrier passing options - a big reason why we so frequently lose possession in bad areas?
Just changing the playing personnel isn't going to make any difference at all if we continue to play the same way.
It's worrying. The crowd are still getting behind the team and the attendances are holding up, but Saturday was grim and there were a lot of unhappy punters on the way out of the ground. I only wish it had been more of a surprise than it was.

This is an excellent post here from Stumpy regarding our style of play.
The thing to remember about this is that to play out from the back, as most teams do nowadays, the defenders have to be comfortable doing so, particularly the central defenders. Gayle, who is a good stopper and captain, is inclined to launch it at the first opportunity. The keeper also does this. Are they being instructed to do so.?
In our early pre-season games I felt we played some excellent possession-based football. It was good to watch and we had good results too. Personnel have changed since then of course but ultimately it is down to the management to set the style of play we tend towards.
