Strange run up to today and it seems we've blinked and been 2nd best and a bit lacklustre. Not really threatened or shown the usual movement off the ball. They're a decent side, full of theatrics and we have invited them onto us by not being our decisive selves with the ball

Awful performance. Absolutely nothing good to say other than a great hit by Sterling who looked good when he came on. Interesting to see Hasler scored twice out on loan whilst we struggled to find 12 senior players.

How on earth can you possibly justify picking a player who we were told had an Achilles injury.ie MeV, and send what appears a fully fit player,ie Sam Hasler out on loan who not only played for Ashford but scored two goals , especially with the suspension of Callum and Alfie . Today we were playing high balls ,again,up to Johan who isn’t exactly a giant , going in to suicide tackles and completely devoid of any tactics. Tactics? . Excellent crowd today , wonder how many will come back.

I’d suggest we missed a certain centre forward today but it probably doesn’t need saying given how many came up to me and said it at half time and after the game.

Think we might need to get some taller players in, Carshalton made it look like Land of the Giants out there.

Apart from the final twenty minutes when we decided to get it down and play ( sparked by the entrance onto the pitch of young Tyler Sterling - who looks a real talent - good touch, strong, confident. ( His strike for our goal was awesome.) A really quality strike from outside the box.
Given our shortages, I can't see why he should not start.!
There were far too many changes ( forced ) for us to have any sort of cohesion from the start, but knocking long balls to a non-existent target man surely did not help. Then we gave away a soft penalty to make it 1-0 and an even softer one to make 2-0 when we had ample opportunities to clear the ball. It was a case of `after you Claude ` which allowed them to stick the ball in the net.
Worse was to come just after the restart. More sloppy defending and we are 3-0 down. Awful. They are a useful big side Carshalton, but we have beaten better side than them this season. Away too. Fortunately, Worthing also lost which helps us to stay near the top.
The inclusion of Tyler and his great goal, plus Draycott seemed to spark something of a resurgence, and but for a real Worldie of a save from their keeper from JV`s point-blank volley it would have been 3-2.
But let's not kid ourselves, that first half was as poor as I have seen us play all season and it will take a massive improvement in performance if we are to get anything at Worthing next Sat.

I thought we might struggle today with the enforced changes, so the result wasn't a complete surprise, but there's no getting away from the fact that we played pretty poorly. Stupid penalty to give them the lead after we had made a fairly bright start and then failed to deal with a not particularly dangerous corner for the second. The third goal right at the start of the second half effectively killed us off.
The worst thing today was that we seemed not to have any kind of tactical plan at all. Without Jerson, then Johan and Ira needed to play fairly centrally, but they both seemed to stay as wide as ever and nobody from midfield got any further forward than usual - hardly surprising that we created so few chances, with crossing not even an option.
I didn't think Carshalton were very good at all, more intent on time wasting and being niggly than playing football, but they didn't have to be because most teams in our league would have beaten us today.
Bright spots? Tyler's superb goal, of course, and I thought that Finn played pretty well at centre back. JV had a pretty good game as well. But that's about it - and we missed Alfie so badly, more for what he gives us going forward than anything else.
Grim.
