An easy afternoon for Chatham. They barely had to break sweat. And we kindly gifted them two goals, one because of another keeper gaffe, the other caught in possession deep in our own half - they always seemed quicker to the ball. Powderpuff upfront, just one effort that hit the bar, otherwise nothing on target. The team has been completely rebuilt, why? There has been no improvement.

As in the game against Hastings, we gave away two avoidable goals. It is very hard to win an away game when you do that.
We were marginally the better team in the first half, without causing them too many problems. Their goal came from close in, following a melee in the box. We should have cleared the ball earlier, I felt.!
We went with the manager`s favoured diamond midfield, with Allsopp on the left, Jordan on the right, Moses holding and Rance in the centre-mid spot. Well, that's how I saw it anyway. Derry led the line with Collins just behind.
Back four of Fregene right back, Kedman left-back, Callum and Gaylie centre backs. In theory a good system, but you have to have the right players for the particular system. Cameron Brodie looked comfortable on the left wing-back last week. I didn't think it suited Eddie Allsopp.
He is what we used to call in my day an inside forward. And a good one too.! He was far too deep when he passed across our box to gift them their second.
We missed Sanogo`s power in midfield. He undermined that with a great run and shot against the bar when he came on, late in the second half. Smith also added a touch of danger when he came on in the second half.
Our modus operandi seems to be, to use Derry as a target man, { need Smith next to him to do that } in my opinion. But this is a bit passe as a system. Most modern teams go with three forwards mostly, with the ability to interchange positions. Alternatively two good on-the-ball strikers, able to hold it up, and a couple of wide players. Kedman for instance is excellent at bombing on. Fregene less so.
So, we have improved recently, but there is still lots of room for improvement, IMO.
COYS! { Big Ian asked me to do a longer report today, so apologies for boring everybody else} 😀

PS Allsopp would be called a 10 in the modern game. Far too deep today, I Felt.

I think Kedman would have been better at left midfield today. with Tyler Byron full back behind him.
Smith is a better partner for Derry. Although Lewis put a real shift in today and put their defenders under pressure throughout.

Time to change the record.Maybe challenge why the intensity wasn't there, why the workrate was lower, why we didn't present a threat to their goal, what does he see in this goalie that he didn't see in Joe? why play Jordan wide then not give him the ball?

Well said, could even try Jordon up front at least he will fire a shot at goal when a chance comes can't really remember Derry doing this all the time he's been with us,what's the point of a striker if he doesn't shoot..

And pair him up with Sanogo then just find replacements for their positions..

Good points are made there by the Saint and the Lawman. Agree with both. Playing Jordan as a midfielder is never going to work. Defending is not his strong suit. But given a run at goal, you would back him.

Talk about lopsided recording. We did have more than one attack throughout the game. But not too many admittedly.

But it shows how, frustratingly, both their goals were give aways even though we were being pressed.

I cannot for the life of me see why we continue to pick this keeper.
He is averaging a goal a game. To the opposition!!

But it shows how, frustratingly, both their goals were give aways even though we were being pressed. As were both the goals at Hastings and far too many others this season. I actually think the problem isn't the defence as such, it's the midfield - whatever the opposite of dominant is, that's what we are. Even in games where we play fairly well, and that incudes some of the ones we have won, the opposition tend to have more of the ball and as a consequence more chances than we do. We won't be a whole lot better next season if we don't strengthen the midfield; in particular, I think we need a player who links defence and attack and plays a good pass - the kind of player Jack Evans is for Chatham, but wasn't for us during his brief spell, probably because he was played as the holding midfielder. It's not all we need, because we don't carry enough of a goal threat period. Apart from the full backs, Jordan and Eddie Allsopp in bursts, we are woefully short of pace. As for the keeper - started OK, but he has been pretty dire in recent games and doesn't look any kind of step up from Joe - the opposite right now.
