Very sad news. It was a privilege to work with Mick when he was sports editor at the Herald and Express, I always found him great company and he was a man who truly loved his football and Invicta (and the occasional drop of red).
Condolences to the Cork family, I can assure you there was an awful lot of love for Mick in Folkestone. RIP Corky.

Had some legendary away trips when he was one of the bingo bus regulars. Most notably Bognor when he fell into a pile of beer bottles on the coach on the way back, and the corky song was born!! RIP Mick, no doubt you’ll be having some banter with Harry up there now!! 🧡🖤

Folkestone football write ups in the local rag for as far back as I can recall. A football man through and through.
Rest easy Mick.

Such sad news to hear, especially at this time of the year. A Cheriton Road legend.

Really sorry to hear that. Loved FIFC with a passion. Until he became unwell, Mick was an excellent wordsmith and wrote terrific articles.
Condolences to Lorraine and all the Cork family. RIP Mick.

Sad news indeed. Quite a character, Corky. Nicest bloke in the world until something got his goat, but even then he was still endearing, and the storms always passed quickly.

He had a right go at me away at Margate one Boxing Day (mistaken identity but that's beside the point) but then came back later to apologise. Didn't spill a drop of his vino either.

A very sad day for football in Folkestone . His match reports were always a joy to read sometimes hardly anything about the match but brilliant .
We all have some amazing stories to tell Cambridge was one on the best with the referee asking me to talk to him and ask him to calm down . Chippenham away he was ejected came back in at half time and was asked to leave again !
Always worked so hard for the supporters club as well as the football club. Yes, we all fell out with him but not for long . I had some great trips to away games talking to him about his love of music and football. His band up delaying a Jimi Hendrix practice in Folkestone was the best !
Such a pity he did not get to write that book with Neil Cugley about the strangest non league football players they have known .
He was at Saltwood Care Centre at the same time as my Dad so I saw him a lot this year . He was not himself but was able to smile when you said hello.
RIP Mr C

So sorry to hear the sad news about Mick Cork.
I don't remember ever falling out with him. As others have said he was a loyal supporter of the Club. I remember that he used to go round the coach, in the days when the supporters and team travelled together, with the football scratchcards. If a decision went against Folkestone during a match he would wander up and down and inform the officials.
My late Dad, when he bowled indoors at Folkestone, had lots of involvement with Mick as he used to send him the results to publish in the Folkestone Herald.
My condolences to Lorraine and the family.

Really sad at the news got told on Friday when his sister send me a WhatsApp message. I have known Mick since the sixties when he was a bass player in local groups. Loved talking to him when he was at the Invicta matches. He was a legend!!

I'm deeply saddened to learn about Mick Cork's passing. During the initial days when I started work on the website, Mick played a crucial role in supporting me by handling the majority of match reports, news, and previews. Although there was a big learning curve for him in getting accustomed to the website. Mick's assistance was invaluable, and he was not only a skilled contributor but also a very likable person as many have stated on here already R.I.P Mick. And Condolences to his family.

It's a bit sad that the only mention of Micks passing by the club is the retweet of your article. No tribute on either the official site or any of the clubs offical social platforms.

Yes, has been rather surprising not to see it acknowledged in a more official way, given what a long-standing and much-loved figure Corky was.

Let’s hope the ‘boyz ‘ sing the Corky song as it was he who first called them the noise boys! A fitting tribute from those he knew. Sadly many of the current generation missed him in full flow and won’t appreciate what a significant part of our history he was. Rock on Corky!

Mick was a real Folkestonian and despite his position at the Herald, he never pretended to be anything other. But he was also a regular visitor to Reachfields, none more so then when the old Cheriton Road club ceased to be for a period. In those days the paper was often able to send reporters to Hythe matches--home or away-- and thus I got to know him well. He even "mocked up" a pretend Herald front page for me for a party we had invited both him and Lorraine to. I had not heard about the Corky song, but surely a UB 40 track would have been a suitable choice ? Fond memories over the years.

I would just like to say that I paid a little tribute to Mick Cork on my Sports Show today on AcademyFM Folkestone. At the end of my footballing career playing for Hythe Reserves at the grand old age of 51 I always put a match report in and Mick always posted it. He became a bit of a hero of mine as I was always interested in reporting on sport, especially local. He was an old school reporter who edited the Sports pages on the Herald with great skill back in the day when there were three Folkestone and Hythe Sunday morning football divisions with many players playing for Folkestone on a Saturday and then turning out on a Sunday!! Unheard of now!! Our many conversations back then I think helped me to where I am today,a volunteer on local Radio with my own Sports Show. Thanks Mick. R.I.P.

Previous post reminded me of how the chairman of Sunday league side Essembee (St Mary's bay) Fred Rolleston used to send Mick reports of almost every game which he then put in the herald. I had a book of cuttings left to me when Fred passed away but I think I leant it out and it never came back.😢 we had a certain Paul Chambers playing for us...until Neil Cugley found out😎
