2 - 1 to Hornchurch! Sounded like a bit of a rocket from Muldoon.

Expected result based on last two performances and our record away from home against the stronger play off teams.
Awaiting Anthony’s rose tinted assessment delivered with some some fairy dust of positivity.
Onwards and upwards.

Well in it in the first half, unlucky to go in 1-0 behind.
Had had a goal disallowed and their keeper made a wonder save from Dave Smith. So we went in at the break looking ok.
When we equalised shortly after the break with a lovely strike from Dave Smith from a great through ball from Ronnie Dolan I felt we were in with a shout. But they went ahead directly afterwards with a thirty-five-yard volley out of nowhere, they never looked back from there.
Their ten and sixteen were far too quick and clever for our experienced defence. Jordan and Kieron helped when they came on but the game was over by that stage.
A lot of tired legs out there. Really needs a reset if we don't want the season to drift away.

Now is the time to go on an unbeaten run until the end of the season Next 3 games vs teams in the bottom 4 I believe (haven't checked that yet).

I see someone has a crystal ball on here....expected result blah blah...and then have a dig at someone for their positive views...toxic forum. Nice balanced review Gerry thank you...be careful though as you might get accused of having rose tinted glasses.

Is our lack of form down to the fact that since Jan 15th up to this Tues Feb 15th we would had played 10 games that twice a week straight through and with covid prior to that there would have been no training to sort things out since before christmas and we have still another month of twice a week matches to go..all with a squad of 16..

Match highlights. Looks a 'difficult' ground to watch football in.

Match highlights. Looks a 'difficult' ground to watch football in. Nothing that a pair of high-powered binoclulars won't sort out. And does their pitch really slope that much, or did their cameraman have a wonky tripod, or is it my eyes?

Out of all the stuff that has been done to death over the last few days, if I had to pick one single thing that is having the most impact, I'd agree it is that - it looks that way anyway.

Okay we lost today, but let's take a minute to reflect on the state of play...
As disappointing today was let's look at the facts.
We are 8 points behind Enfield, who are 2nd, and we have 2 games in hand.....Yeah?
Our next fixtures:
Home against Cray Wanderers on Tuesday, currently 15th.
Away to Brightlingsea, currently 20th
Home to Bognor, currently 17th
Home to East Thurrock, bottom of league in 22nd.
Now is the time for us to put a great run together. Enfield will drop points undoubtedly. 12 points would be ideal, anything less than 8 in the next four and wave goodbye to playoffs.
Just my opinion. See you all Tuesday

We looked good at times going forward yesterday, as you can see from the video, but we are lacking pace at the back and defensive midfield. Jordan and Kieron made an impact when they came on, but the substitutions were made at far too late a stage in the game to be effective.
We can still make the playoffs but we need to reset, the defence in particular right now, to do so. in my opinion.

Sorry but I have to disagree Gerry, we are so attacking at the moment. Which leaves our defence so exposed. Playing anyone there won’t make a difference, if you are over run that’s it! We can’t play with 3 up top and not expect them to do any kind of defensive work. Hornchurch fullbacks we’re allowed to get out with the ball all day yesterday. We start very attacking, then once we go a goal down, or losing we then go even more attacking! Which normally means the score line is bigger than needed. I thought the Hornchurch goalie was superb. I thought he was the busier of the two goalies.

Personally, I never wanted us to change from 3-5-2. So you think it was the forward's fault that we defended so poorly and one or two lacked pace ?

Post by realfan on Feb 13, 2022 9:42:21 GMT
Yes you have made that point very clear. I believe we needed to change the 3-5-2 and it worked. And now I believe we need a shake up, we need to be harder to beat. There’s no point in beating all the lesser teams by handfuls of goals and then losing to all the better teams away. I’m not blaming anyone, or pointing fingers like you like to. I just don’t think you can play that attacking and expect us not to concede goals! When we are behind we then seem to have to really go for it.

You sound like part of the management. Did you actually watch the game yesterday?

Post by realfan on Feb 13, 2022 10:06:30 GMT
Sound like management? If I was, I would be setting up my team, harder to beat, away from home. Yes, I eventually got there yesterday, 5 minutes late.

I agree with that point. But how do we do so as we are currently set up

I’m not sure on that yet. Before Luke arrived i would have said go back to a 5 at the back. Even if we set up as 4-5-1, attack as 4-3-3 but defend as 4-5-1. It just looks like we are over run. And I personally don’t think our defence is to blame entirely.
