Just read in my paper, and subsequently on the internet, that Spurs had agreed a fee of £100k with Lewes for Ollie Tanner, but that the deal is off because he "failed to agree personal terms".
On Twitter, a few Spurs fans are having a dig at Levy for penny-pinching and not offering the 19 year old whatever he was asking for. He also turned down Brighton for similar reasons.
You would have thought that a 19 year old non-league player might just have jumped at the chance to join one of the biggest clubs in the country - and I don't imagine that Spurs were offering him peanuts.

Didn't we have Ollie tanner on loan from Bromley back in 2020/21season?? Think he played one game and was on the bench for three games in October 2020 just before the lockdown. Missed out on a big talent. Came on as sub against Potters Bar in a 1-0 win in October Minute 11:55 comes on as sub for Dave Smith. From what the Lewes forum is saying it was more about Ollie's time to play in the under 23 Squad and thence being loaned out to clubs like Stevenage or Orient for the rest of the season. He also upped his wage demands at the last minute which may have contributed to the disagreement. But who knows. But to turn an opportunity of joining a club with Conte in charge is something else -- so is Ollie foolish/ill advised or loyal and believes he can carry on improving at Lewes. lewesfc.proboards.com/thread/4312/spurs-offer-ollie-tanner?page=4

You are not going mad John, but football has been mad since the 1980's and the first £1m transfer. It seems that journeymen footballers in the Football league earn in a week what NHS and other public workers get in a year. I am not sure how long clubs can keep paying exorbitant fees and wages for players and grass roots/non-league struggles.

Another one is that he asked for more money at the last minute - so who knows what to believe? I can't remember Ollie being with us, but that doesn't mean he wasn't; he wouldn't be the first loan player to come here and barely make an appearance...

I'd be interested to know if Conte has personal sign off on the signing of Tanner, or whether the youth coaches want to sign him and he is signed at a lower level of the club so to speak. You would've thought Conte would have some awareness of Tanner and why they were signing him so they can develop him accordingly.

The suggestions from their management and coaching staff on Twitter is that the last feels he is better progressing playing first team football instead of playing U23s at Spurs and he believes that his career will be better off and another chance will come along. Spurs have also looked at the lad at Ramsgate and at a guess I’d think they are trying to flip cheap, non-league talents for profit.
If he’s not going to be in the first team squad, working with Conte shouldn’t even be a consideration anyway. Conte certainly won’t be the one in charge of anything relating to bringing Tanner in, it’s not the way Spurs work. But for them £100k is nothing and they’ll almost certainly get their investment back, or would have.
Anyway, yes he was with us for about a month before lockdown hit at the end of 2020 on a dual registration. I’d guess Bromley are k inking themselves but there’s every chance he was the one who decided to leave to get the football at Lewes that he’s now reluctant to give up to return to U23s.

I remember Ian wright saying that if you are playing U23 football at a professional club, then get out. He feels 99% of the players there are on a road to nowhere. Trouble is the lad may have a bad reputation now, there is alot of kids in the country as good or better and having turned down a couple of opportunities, there could be question marks about his attitude.

As long as he keeps putting in the performances he does there will always be a taker. Personally I like the idea that he’s confident enough that he can do better than Spurs U23s. Hope he doesn’t end up regretting it.

There was also the small matter of his alleged historical anti Harry Kane tweets that may have coloured THFC's view of him
