...easy to defend synthetic pitches when you're (deservedly) top of the league. We do train on one though. the team hasn’t trained on the 3G pitch since June, before pre-season began. Carshalton was the first time any of them would have played on plastic since then. I stand corrected. The only media I've seen* of training has shown the 3 Hills plastic. *hard to tell from 200 miles away

I have just Arsenal give City a really tough time using a traditional 4-4-2.
Struck me that if we want to keep our back four together this system could be an option that would give the side a more balanced look. Any thoughts?

With the current crop of injuries and players still out on loan, that could be the only option soon Gerry. I would have thought that given the difference in playing conditions a few training sessions on artificial surface might have been a good idea ahead of the away matches. Just a suggestion - this may prove worthwhile before game on 25th?

Possibly. but teams who play regularly on plastic adapt their game. Works against them too. Carshalton rarely win away.

Artificial pitch or not, that is not why we lost.We spurned at least 6 good chances. It was one of those days that the lads did not have their shooting boots on. I always feel that how well we are playing depends on how involved Alfie is. If he is in the game then it shows we are spreading the ball around, he was not in it first half, but it improved in the second. He is so good at delivering dangerous balls into the box and we need as much of that as possible.

Possibly. but teams who play regularly on plastic adapt their game. Works against them too. Carshalton rarely win away. This is so true. In the Irish League we have a few teams with 4g pitches (a good source of income etc), and any players will tell you that they play differently on it. I know some that even refused to play on it (injuries). I'm still not sold on them, but my own local team (Linfield) has a hybrid version (on account of Windsor Park being where the NI National team play their home games), and it seems fine.
