Great result and a really gutsy performance according to Gerry’s report but we really do need to get some defensive reinforcements in.

Reading report from Gerry on the Enfield match yesterday it would seem that possibly half the side are carrying injuries now, in positions without cover. Of course several supporters have been concerned about ‘the squad’ or lack of one for some weeks and months. The guys have done exceptionally well to get through a tough run of away games to remain in a great position in the league and still be in the FA Trophy. With four home games scheduled for rest of the month it is an ideal time to consolidate in the Isthmian and progress in the Trophy. Finn is playing regularly at Hastings and scored in their big win yesterday, but if there is no room for him back at Invicta then two or three recruits are desperately needed. (By way of an aside anybody got a note of how many minutes Ollie has actually played since coming over from Maidstone?)

So Gerry, Laguna and myself are worrying over absolutely nothing at all. Everybody else must be confident that there will be eleven fit and rested players in the side on Tuesday. Plus a full subs bench in case of further knocks or strains.

Don't worry, Gerry is getting his boots out the cupboard this weekend. In his day, a flying winger for the Earls if I remember correctly.

No need to add much more though is there? Minimal squad. Other options farmed out. Those that are left have a lot of injuries.

Everyone, nearly everyone, knows that operating with a ‘squad ‘ of 13/14 players is not viable. It is not only unfair on the players themselves but the fans as well as we want to see the club progress with promotion the aim and it ain’t going to happen under those conditions. Remember these players also do full time jobs as well as playing football combined with all the travelling involved and , although they have been exceptional so far this season, the strain is bound to tell eventually. And as for Ollie the constant bench warming and the occasional few minutes on the pitch at the end of the games can’t be doing his confidence any good. Baffled!!!!!

Vic , as I said in my post I think we need reinforcements at the back and midfield. Unless all those injured make extremely quick recoveries by tomorrow we will struggle.

You and I in total agreement Gerry, but in the Enfield post match interview manager seems to be on a completely different page to us. Mention of Ollie being injured as well? Those boots in the cupboard might be needed tomorrow! Be prepared.

There again, we are talking about 50 years ago so time is marching on.

Great to see the youth of the club coming through and ,hopefully,be the backbone of the club for years to come.Unfortunately, at the moment, our younger players are used as bench fillers .10 minutes here or there will not give them the experience to push on with their careers .We need to sort the 'squad'out before the season slips away ,knocks and injuries take there toll at the back end of the season . We're doing well let's be more progressive and go for it 🤞

I guess nothing ever changes. Neil has his preferences and sooner or later he reverts to them. He likes 4-3-3 and, despite the success we had at from the start of the season playing a back 3 and wing-backs, he's taken the first opportunity (Jordan's injury) to revert to 4-3-3 and it seems that's the way he intends to continue. As for the small squad / underused bench situation, it's always been the same. Neil clearly doesn't like the headache of trying to keep a squad happy and prefers a first XI approach with "tried and trusted" players. Rather than have unhappy players on the bench, he lets them go on loan (we hardly ever see them again) and he always gives the same excuse for not adding to the squad ("There's no point signing players that aren't better than the ones we've already got"). The trouble is that the chances of 12 or 13 players staying fresh (let alone fit) for a whole season are extremely remote. I can't help remembering the 2017/18 season when we ran out of legs and fit players in the last month or so, slipped down to fourth and got completely stuffed in the play-offs at Hendon. I'm worried about this season going the same way - and I'm not sure Neil would be too bothered if it did.

Have to agree Stump's, His stubbornness amazes me. he will play this way until we win and then say '' see told you it works'' completely ignoring all the games let slip. You have to question the commitment to promotion and it does seem only lip service is being paid to it. Lets face it every fan in the ground could see the thin squad was going to run into trouble and steps should have been made long ago to maintain and get a healthy group of players together, playing in rotation of sorts, so that we could maintain some stability. These lads can only ' play their hearts out' so many times. And before anybody pipes up with we are doing great get behind the lads etc, yes we are so far and we are behind the lads, that's why we want the depth to help them. But its getting shaky and old tired legs and cold temperatures mean the injuries are likely to continue. PS: Looks like I am getting wet tonight

It isn't to say we don't have a good team, nor play good football, but there's basically a lack of ambition on the playing side of the club. You have to question the direction of the club when the manager is running things with an amateur mentality and approach in terms of the squad and training (by all accounts). It does eventually come back to haunt us later in the season. The finances have to as good as they have been since Cugley has been manager....but I doubt it'll seriously be used to develop and improve the squad. Maybe Cugley is taking the Wenger approach to finances

Good to see Finn and Tom ,his dad,at the game Tuesday .This Saturday is his last on loan game for Hastings .I would like to think that what ever decision is made it will be with lads best interests to the fore. The clubs youth policy only works if they actually get to play in matches ,which sadly is not the case .
