Absolutely, xjr. I don't think it's any co-incidence at all that our goals (Wingate game apart) have largely dried up. The way we were playing brought a lot of players into potential scoring positions and made us very hard to defend against; long balls to two up front are the easiest thing in the world to defend. Hard to understand why we would revert to that just because Jordan is injured. As the saying goes, if it's not broken, don't fix it.
Incidentally, couldn't help smiling at an article about the sad, but understandable, situation with Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's sacking; main criticism - having a "First XI" mentality and not using the bench effectively...

Certainly agree with Stumpy’s thoughts on the futility of the long ball game with our particular forward players. Cannot imagine that this is a tactical decision passed down by management when the system employed from the start of the season was so successful. My thoughts are that we slip into this long ball approach when midfield legs start to run out of steam around 65-70 mins inti Into the game. Passes start to go astray and possession conceded as the only relief seems to be the introduction of Draycott who for all his attributes is an up front player and not a midfielder. The answer employed in practice is therefore to miss out the fading midfield and going long which simply does not work. Have always recognised our keeper as a good shot stopper but his distribution is poor and again seems to be too reliant on long clearances rather than building from the back. Think it is wrong to blame our front two for the goal drought as the delivery to them is often lacking

Fair point about the front two Biffo.
A lot of the ball on Sat was early and High. But not all. Matt Newman played some excellent through balls to the front two. Particularly Dave Smith. But the ref was letting Lewes get away with some ridiculous manhandling at times. In onc case in particular Ade was thrown to the ground and the ref ignored it. In their box!
Someone should ask the players what they thought. I know that Matt Newman was booked for letting the inexperienced ref know what he thought of his performance!
But, not having the width which wing-backs give you, does seem to encourage long ball use.
We should not mention wing-backs on here if we ever want to see them again. LOL
