Last realistic chance of silverware. I believe a few of the new signings are cup tied unfortunately. COYS!

Surprised it's on, to be honest. Very few games are in this part of the world tonight. Cheriton Road may be bumpier than a toad's back, but it drains well

Many of the signings in recent years have turned out to be players who have given loyal service to the club. Looking at the history of recent signings seem to indicate that some now have had, in the immortal words. more clubs than Jack Nicklaus

That's the way it is these days.
You're right, we had a very settled squad for a long time. There were a lot of good things about that, but maybe that squad was never quite good enough to get us to the next level. There was a big downside as well; that squad was inevitably going to break up sooner or later and, when it did, and Cugs stepped down from managing the team as well, the lack of any real planning for the future inevitably bit us hard. Mev and Edgy did their best, but they were in a very difficult position.
Now, belatedly, we seem to be making the fresh start that we desperately needed. Too late, I think, to achieve anything this season, apart from staying up which is vital, but let's see how it goes and hope that next season we really kick on.

Quite a few supporters would question the use of the word ‘squad’. In some opinions it was often a first eleven and ‘others’ After a period of time these ‘others’ got fed up, understandably, of sitting on the subs bench and left for opportunities elsewhere. When some of the first eleven then suffered strains, sprains and knocks there were no suitable replacements. Could that be a reason why the team never matched the fans ambitions? Hopefully we can have more success with a proper rotation policy.

Despite an improved second-half performance, Hastings proved far too slick and organized for us tonight.
They are of course a reasonably established side, whereas I was still figuring out the names of our new signings at half-time. There is ambition at the club, but it will take time to sort out a team and a system of play not there yet.
Hastings like to play out from the back and on a bumpy surface, we should have not stood off them as we did first half. Got at them a bit more second half and got some chances from it.
With all the new signings there should be a team in there, once organized, but I feel that at the moment the manager needs to play himself to establish a pattern of play that he wants.
Tough away assignment at Horsham on Saturday, but I am looking forward to visiting that nice new ground. We had some joy down there last season too!! COYS!

0-2 78 minutes An all round miserable night? Not entirely. Let's not forget this was the first time a lot of this team had played together. Not all of the new signings could play since a couple of them were cup tied. We started brightly, but then seemed to lose our way a bit and Hastings bossed most of the first half. Second half we were significantly better and Hastings second goal was against the run of play. We were unlucky not to score a couple of times - hit the post, one cleared off the line and a goal ruled out for a less than obvious offside. New players looked OK individually and can only get better at playing together. Let's be honest, this wasn't a very important game (last chance of silverware notwithstanding) staying in the league is the be all and end all. Tough game coming up Saturday

Reflecting on last night's game it's obvious that we are still in gestation as a team.
So, here are some thoughts. We need a defensive right back. Kane good player, and he is, is a midfielder. Possibly, Will Moses when Callum is available? Mind you he was really good in our first win of the season up at Wingate as a defensive midfielder. The midfield at the moment needs Drury to start. Maybe with Moses Holding.
Up top, we have a plethora of players with all the new signings. Koker and Smith both looked good when they came on. I would be interested in seeing how Smith would get on playing alongside Tom Derry. He is a finisher by nature but needs a partner to get the best from him.
Shame we did not have this squad pre-season to work on a team but we need to sort one fast, given our league position.

We need a defensive right back. We've signed one, Gerry, Chris Sessegnon from Horsham. He couldn't play last night because he was cup tied. Similarly, we have signed another midfielder, Seidou Sanogo from Chatham, who was also cup tied last night. I don't share your view on needing Andy Drury to play; I think that part of the reason for some of the new signings is so that he doesn't have to. Great passer, yes, but too easily by passed when the oppo have the ball. Just my view.

Just listen to managers thoughts on last nights performance, I thought we were poor again, never looked like scoring even though we have lots of attacking players, again gave away goals on the break but when we break away we seem to stop and pass backwards. We are going backwards with this bunch of players as shown with the low attendance while Hythe are flying, not looking good.

To be fair, Colin, although I agree we were not great, that was the first time a lot of that team had played together before, so it's a bit early to judge - and we did come close to scoring more than once. Let's hope we get some results soon, although Saturday might be a tough one to get anything from.

I think it’s only fair we give Andy Drury some time to work with what is a fairly new team . All we can really hope for is survival in this league and start next season with fresh hopes . Mind you I wish we had a player that could launch a throw in like the Hastings No 3 last night .

How about that super number 10 of theirs? Made both goals and gave Kane a torrid time. I hope Drury manages to weld a team and a way of playing from the squad. He needs to get some performances soon AND a system of playing for the team. Strangers at the moment.
Gaylie was vocal. Important! There are so many new players forging a team spirit is fundamental.
