How many cup competitions are there for Invicta? Seen quite a few mentioned since I started keeping my eye on the club.

Trophy, Kent Senior Cup and Velocity Trophy, which is the league cup for all Isthmian League teams and the only one we are still in - it also the least important of the four, because most of the premier division teams don't put out their strongest sides in the earlier rounds.

Thanks,Stumpy. I know it can be good for the coffers, but will it help not still being in competitions for fitness reasons? We (CCFC) don't even put full strength teams out for the League Cup (whatever it's called now). Hence why this year we got knocked out by Wimbledon. Our manager just doesn't think it's important enough. You don't have a big squad do you? The more games, the more risk of fatigue and injury. I guess there will be just a handful of fans at this too. I take it's not even worth me wishing you good luck then for tonight if it doesn't matter. π

A fine goal from Holness to equalize their early second-half lead. A fine low drive from twenty yards. Nice goal. Then on to penalties which we won easily. Ira, Smith, and Cole took excellent penalties, and two fine saves from our substitute Keeper Luke Watkins won the cup tie for us.
That old ground that I recall has been improved out of all recognition. The slope is gone, it now has a lovely modern Astroturf surface. Which is why it was disappointing to me that we went long from the back so often. It was a perfect surface for playing through the midfield, which Herne did for the most part.
When they are all available we have a skilful midfield, especially now with Regis in there. He and Cole came on and things looked better. But there is no point having them if they are bypassed.
Anyway through to the next round. COYS!

Our equalizer was excellent although I thought it had gone the wrong side of the post to start with.
Good saves from our Goalkeeper coupled with some good goals from us in the penalty shoot out.
The cheesey chips were great and good vfm. I heard positive reports of the burgers too.

it was disappointing to me that we went long from the back so often. I had the pleasure of watching Herne Bay at Sittingbourne last Tuesday. First half, Sittingbourne played long ball (they actually have a tall target man, good player too, so in theory it could work for them), but they got absolutely nowhere with it and were lucky to be level at half-time; second half, they ditched it, played passing football and won comfortably. We didn't play it against Cheshunt on Saturday and were much better for not playing it. So why revert to it last night? Baffles me.

My own feeling re last night is our team shape does not get the best from some players. For example, Dave Smith as a central striker without a partner. He got his goals last time playing off Ade Jusseff. Get the best from him playing in a pair, up top.
We have three good central defenders, so why not go with a three at the back with wing backs. Was really impressed by the tenacity of young Dempsey at left back against Gillingham. Looks very fit and would definitely have the energy required for the wing back role. Or young Jordan Abbabio down the right.
This is the ideal competition to experiment so that we have some alternatives to the current 4-3-3.
