As some of you might know, I'm trying to piece together the history of Cheriton Road football ground with the intent to make a website about it.
Much of it is photos & maps, but I'm also looking for facts.
At the moment I have gaps in:
Photos: 1950s, 1960's & 1980s (the 1980s is rather annoying as that's when I started watching football there).
History / facts: Current 2 storey changing rooms / hospitality: when it was built; how it was paid for; what it replaced Club shop: when it was built; how it was paid for; what it replaced Bar invicta / Stripes / Seasider snack bar: when it was built; how it was paid for; what it replaced Turntiles: when each were built or refurbished Wheelchair 'bus shelter': when it was built Ground naming: I could look this up somewhere, but if anyone can remember all the names, via sponsorship, that the ground had then that would save me some time.
I can email people the information I have so far if interested.

Duncan, have you seen the article by the sadly departed Dave West in Groundtastic 39? it details the history of the ground and various developments and changes from 1914 to 2003 The wild Armory suite was nearing completion when the old wooden stand was destroyed by fire in January 1973.
I'd be happy to send you a photocopy if it. would help

I'm still struggling with when Stripes/BarInvicta was built, and also the club shop.

Can anyone help with this bit please? www.cheritonroad.co.uk/1960-to-1990 One other ground feature from this time that I'm struggling to find a picture of is a tea bar situated between the cricket ground end turnstiles and the Grandad stand. This tea bar was called "Grouty's Hut"

It's very useable now. www.cheritonroad.co.uk/Still need some information on when the turnstiles were built. also, between the Harvey Grammar school the football ground are a row of tennis courts. Who owns them? Council? Harvey? I've never seen anyone using them. Google maps view: preview.tinyurl.com/y4luejue

Another question: the ambulance station on the cricket ground car park (behind cricket ground end terrace) - does anyone know when this ambulance station was built? It used to look like this in 1926 (2/3 of the way down the page of my website at www.cheritonroad.co.uk/1900-to-1930 ):-

A bit more help needed. I've realised that I've omitted the improvements to the outside of Bar Invicta (all the woodwork; cover; tables & chairs; etc). Can anyone remember the month this was done in so I can trawl back through the club website / Twitter / Facebook for information & photos? All updates will go into the website www.cheritonroad.co.uk/

When did we first start doing fireworks displays?
If anyone has any photos of Guy Fawkes night / fireworks at the ground I'd be interested. Clearly some parts of the ground need to be in the fireworks picture. Thanks in advance.

Also had this on Facebook. Anyone remember military tattoo(s)?
"Does anyone recall the military tattoo held here? I thought it was good, don't recall how many times, maybe it was just the once, must have been around 1979 or 1980 perhaps "

Website has had a few minor updates. www.cheritonroad.co.uk/Still interested in:- Any pictures of the ground during fireworks display (I've asked many times so I guess there aren't many photos) Anything on the turnstiles (old photos; info on when they were built, etc)

As far as turnstiles are concerned, my somewhat hazy recollection is of two turnstiles in a red brick shelter on the main road by the Harvey bus stop. They led down a path by the tennis courts as far as the council hut and entrance to the ‘remland end by the PA but. The path in those days did not continue to the polo ground. They were demolished by the fixit crew led by Phil Orris. Nigel PATEY lost his dad’s wrecking bar in the process and never forgave the process(not people). The new block followed shortly after beside Stripes. Again led by Phil with brothers John and Pete providing the chippy and brickie expertise with the rest of us labouring. The cast iron turnstiles arrived on a flat bed truck from somewhere oop north from a ground that had closed/modernised. Sorry. Not sure of year, I’m sure Clive will remember and correct me.
I’m sure the media Meister would be happy to provide some snaps of the firework day to celebrate and promote this wonderful community initiative.
