when I’m up that scaffold tower having just filmed us score to take the lead and I hear people shouting obscene abuse at the manager from the terraces and don’t even have to look up from my phone to know Johan must be coming off, it makes you wonder. There's no getting away from the fact that Johan is very popular with the crowd. There are a lot of good reasons for that, some of which people have mentioned in this thread. But there's something else involved too. If you're on that side of the pitch, then surely you must notice the difference in Neil's attitude towards Jo compared with the majority of the other players? They can make mistake after mistake, have an absolute stinker, and Neil won't say a word, not from the touchline anyway - after the game, maybe, who knows - he just stands there in his usual arms folded, chin in hand pose. Then Jo makes one tiny mistake and its "F***ing hell, Johan!", occasionally followed by a kick at the advertising board behind the dugout. It doesn't help Jo and it is neither fair nor justified. It's something we've seen more than once over the years - Neil for whatever reason gets a down on a player and then they can do nothing right. It's been Johan for most of this season and a bit of last. Before him it was Jordan Wright. Going back much further it was John Ayling. The crowd on the terrace behind the dug outs are more aware of this than anybody and that's why they are so vocal when Jo is taken off (especially when he's far from the most ineffective player on the pitch at the time) - because as well as being popular, he is perceived as the victim of unfairness. I've got to admit it seems that way to me as well. Stumpy - I’ve never met you, I don’t know you, but you couldn’t have nailed it any better. It’s a personal situation, for whatever reason, against a lad who’s given his all every time he’s stepped on the pitch (mostly out of position). Three newspaper articles since December from the manager publicly criticising the strikers. Curious/complete lack of man management skills? I’m absolutely sure they want to do the best they can for themselves, their team-mates, the club and the supporters, but I can’t imagine they’re doing it for the manager, for no thanks at all. You can treat people with respect & still use motivational techniques, and I’m afraid the manager has lost the plot with his treatment of individuals. The players have done brilliantly with a small squad this season. Head-scratching selections have cost games, and that’s why the campaign could now fade away, and players will move on.

Did make me league at the time that nobody commented on 2 interviews with out top scorer where he was gushing with praise for the manager. fifc.proboards.com/thread/6309/interview-ira-jackson
