Cray had no goalkeeper. Looks like they found one at the last minute. He looks "experienced" So short of players they've even got our media man on the bench it appears

At the top big wins for Worthing and Bishop's Stortford. Big defeats for Enfield and Kingstonian. It's a bonkers league.

Deserved win tonight but the main topic we have to talk about, I’ll try not to use selective words.
The ref (though we joke about it this time is no joke) was Crap 💩
The pitch was definitely heavy tonight and effected the game but the ref was poor giving things that weren’t fouls and not giving the blatant and obvious.
Poor performance from the Ref Tonight.

The win was the main thing, and overall I think we deserved it, although they did miss an open goal and Tim probably had to make more tricky saves than their keeper. Just for once, Cugs picked the team that I would have picked and so I can't complain. Jordan must have run Ade close for MOM And Joel's right - the ref was crap. Gave Luke a yellow card for diving when we should have had a penalty, gave a yellow card for just about every foul in what wasn't a dirty game, gave an obvious corner as a goal kick and failed to play advantage when Smithy was clean through and almost certainly would have scored. I've seen this ref before more than once this season - I think it's Mr Conn - and he was just the same in the other games, card happy.

I thought it was an interesting and at times entertaining game, given the conditions. Yes, some inexplicable bookings and decisions from the ref but equally distributed, I felt.
Ade was deservedly MOTM, his goal was the result of a really classy build-up. I thought that Mev put a real shift In midfield, Ronny looked classy as usual. Drury was fine until he tired. Kieron could have been on earlier to relieve some tired legs. Although we did have some good chances to increase our lead, their keeper made some good stops, with his legs mostly!
But the best save of the night came just before halftime and when Tim made the save of his career, tipping one over from point-blank range, to protect our slim lead. Awesome save.
Having such a slim lead meant the Cray were always in the game and at times we had to resort to some last-ditch defending. Callum was excellent as usual but although he says he doesn't like that position, JV was first class there tonight, and he needed to be as they had some very skilful forwards. Jordan too had a good game at right-back ( I would still prefer to see him and Alfie as wing-backs to get the best from them )
So we get a much-needed win at home , now let's build on that and stay in the playoff positions. COYS!

Yes, John your points on the ref have rejigged my memories. We did suffer more from his poor decisions !!

It was a penalty indeed Finbarr! But to be fair there was a shout at the other end as well which was also waved away (although it did look softer). It seemed a player would have to have their legs hacked from beneath them to get a penalty last night.
I thought Cray had the upper hand for large portions of the match, their forwards were speedy and passed extremely accurately for starters. Unfortunately for them Tim pulled off some proper classy saves, one of which defied belief. Their No.2 was right handful too, he was almost unplayable.
But amongst others Ade was on proper form last night and produced a tenacious MOTM display, their defence couldn't handle him yet again.

So we won but.... - A relegation threatened team took us close. - Need incredible saves from Tim to keep us in it. - Cray had a possible penalty. - Many of our competitors had more convincing wins.
Am I being overly pessimistic about this?

No, we have definitely dropped off somewhat recently Finbar. Missing players and tiredness are both factors.
But I have come to agree with Realfan that we cannot afford to play with three up. Leaves us exposed elsewhere. Particularly to the counter. If Cugs doesn't fancy wingbacks why not go 4-4-2, with the middle four tucking in to allow the fulls to bomb on when they can.
That should make us sounder defensively and give us some attacking width at the same time. Comments appreciated.!

Am I being overly pessimistic about this? Not overly - things are a bit hard right now. Scott Heard is a big miss because we have no like-for-like replacement. Kieron is probably the nearest thing we have, although he doesn't have quite the dynamism that Scott has. Cugs went for Ronnie, Mev and Andy Drury in midfield. It worked OK until people unsurprisingly got tired (Andy and Mev combined age 77, which is almost as old as Cray's goalkeeper ) Andy was replaced by Draycs about halfway through the second half in what looked like a pre-planned substitution. Kieron came on for Luke (not Mev) after the 90 minutes were up in what presumably was just a sub to waste time. Was a bit surprised that Kieron didn't come on sooner and for Mev - perhaps he's not 100% fit? - I've no idea. You couldn't argue much with the team selected and I agree with Gerry; JV might not like playing centre back but it's probably his best position these days. As for formation - I think 4-3-3 leaves us too open to conceding, especially on the break to teams with pace. So, for me, 4-4-2 or 5-3-2, out of which I prefer the latter, especially against strong oppo and especially away from home. Bit tricky though as it doesn't accomodate the three strong forwards we've got. At the end of the day, as Gerry says, the main problem right now, apart from the difficulty of replacing unavailable players from a small squad, is that we still look a tired side - especially on heavy pitches like last night. No magic wand suggestions from me on that one. The bottom line though is that we won last night, the next three games are all winnable and, if we do win them, we will still be well-placed in the play-off race.

I very rarely post on here, but need to vent my spleen about something. All season I’ve heard moaning from the terraces, and last night during the second half, some so called fans were abusing Ade, words like useless being bandied about. I recognised a couple of voices, one stood near me, I won’t name names, you know who you are. Shame on you.

Totally agree. Anybody calling him useless needs to have a serious rethink. Worked his backside off last night with a really well taken goal. He’s been one of our most impressive players all season long and deserves nothing but support! I very rarely post on here, but need to vent my spleen about something. Let me guess - you were standing behind the goal, a bit further to the right than you usually do? I usually stand there and I hear the same voice moaning about Ade non-stop, and it's every game. I don't know who it is, because I don't turn round to look. It's pathetic, annoying and totally unjustified - you can't help wondering what the bloke's problem is.

Maybe the decision to award him man of the match was a little suspect, but he was given some brutal treatment by their defenders, with no protection from that bloody useless ref.

It is the same suspects who always pick one player to throw abuse at whether we win or lose.

We all know who it is. I am always to the left of goal and I always try and pipe up and get us seasiders singing. Managed a few last night. And I'd brought my lady to see what folkestone is all about.
We don't need these "fans"
Onwards.

Does make me wonder what’s the point of going to football just to throw abuse at your own players and it’s no wonder why we struggle to attract players to the club with some of our so called ‘fans’ win or lose us Supporters want the best for the players And the club much different to some fans.
