Alfie was unplayable second half! Even Tim couldn't handle him!

As Steveblake says we are turning into a formidable side at Cheriton Rd.
It starts from the back. Our back four JV, Matt Newman and Callum Davis centre backs, and Alfie Paxman at left-back (in unbeatable form at the moment!) with Tim behind them, also in great form, pose such a difficult barrier to visiting sides. Add to that, protecting them in midfield you have either Mev or RJ. Both determined ball winners. Not easy set up to score against.
Up top Ade and Dave Smith must be a nightmare to mark with their physicality and pace. So it's easy to see why clubs won't look forward to coming here.
There were so many good goals from us today. Hard to pick one over the other. But I must say that the unforgettable goal for me was the sixth and final one from our young lad Atherton who came on for the last ten. He showed loads of promise and a terrifically calm attitude to finish the ball played across the goal to him. He simply opened up his body and placed it perfectly wide of the keeper to the back of the net. I am sure he will never forget that one.
There were some cracking goals amongst the six. Matt Newmans`s lovely header for the opener. Another headed goal from our far post expert JV, two weeks running now, headed goals from him!. Lovely strikes from Ade and Dave and a lovely drive from Heardy.
Merstham have some very good forwards, the nine and the eleven in particular kept our defence busy at times, but there was only going to be one winner today, in front of another fine crowd of 836 despite the awful weather ! COYS!!

Good result and a fair blend between long ball and playing out from the back. Given the heavy and difficult conditions it was an entertaining afternoon and worth getting a bit damp. Presumably we had a cunning plan if Roberts got crocked?

It's hard to imagine that at times in the first half it was nip and tuck who was on top. As Gerry says their no.9 was head and shoulders above the rest and highly dangerous. Their no.11 was a speed machine! But we took most of our chances and we had a lot more of them. I think the officials deserve a mention here. I was impressed with their balance and professionaism, they didn't get everything right, but took no nonsense from the highly agitated away officials. What a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and well done to the lads!

836 attendance. Pretty good. Very good turnout considering the atrocious weather and the fact Merstham had just four fans.

Merstham red card. Not their day is it. Elbow right in front of the linesman. Think it was more out of frustration than malice.
