What a win !
This has to be one of Invicta best ever away performances when you take into account the circumstances. Matt Newman failed a late fitness test so Mev came into the side as a replacement holding midfielder, with RJ moving back to centre back. It was working until Mev also went down injured! Draycs took over and played really well in there.
Callum had to play on although he had signalled to come off, and to top it all Ryan Johnson then had come off injured. It was a battle out there! Young Luca Borrello had to come on for a real baptism of fire ( he got booked shortly after coming on.) Jordan Wright had earlier replaced Kieron McCann but came on at right-back. It May have been tactical, I don't know.
So we were down to the bare bones and hanging on when earlier we had been bossing it at 3-1. This team has so much team spirit and character though, they just put bodies on the line to hang on for the win.
Our goals were all excellent. The first from a corner put back into the box from deep, and there was Mev with his head in amongst the flying boots to head the opener. The second was a through ball to Ade from Heardy who got to it just before their centre half (with whom he had a real battle all afternoon, he won! ) and the third was a real beauty, Kieron turning their left-back inside out, twice, before driving one across the box leaving Dave Smith with a simple tap in. Kieron had a terrific game until going off. Hope he is not injured too!
So a really memorable win against a side who have not lost at home for ages. Enfield is another side that also could not handle our formidable front two, but the whole team were heroes today.!

I should have said our front three!
We went yesterday with essentially the manager`s favoured set-up, 4-3-3. This meant most of our attacks came down the left where Alfie and Kieron make a formidable left flank. Kieron was also unplayable yesterday and if he repeats more often what he did for our third goal i.e. beat his man and put it across the box will prosper.
A terrific away win for the lads but at some cost! We now have worries about both our centre backs AND both holding midfielders RJ and Mev! I think we do need reinforcements at the back and midfield.
There is a great sense of camaraderie in our lads which saw us over the line yesterday but we are stretched for numbers now !

I think I was a bit unfair to the excellent Dave Smith in my after match impression. He, not Heardy put Ade through for our second goal. AND his finishing of Kieron`s low cross was anything but a tap in. So an assist and a goal for our fastly improving young striker! Memory is not as sharp as it used to be !! ( And eyesight)  |
