Website has had a few minor updates. www.cheritonroad.co.uk/Still interested in:- Any pictures of the ground during fireworks display (I've asked many times so I guess there aren't many photos) Anything on the turnstiles (old photos; info on when they were built, etc) With the fireworks display coming up, if anyone could be kind enough to get some photos of the ground with fireworks going off above it, that would be greatly appreciated. Surely you have family members who could take some for you?

As far as turnstiles are concerned, my somewhat hazy recollection is of two turnstiles in a red brick shelter on the main road by the Harvey bus stop. They led down a path by the tennis courts as far as the council hut and entrance to the ‘remland end by the PA but. The path in those days did not continue to the polo ground. They were demolished by the fixit crew led by Phil Orris. Nigel PATEY lost his dad’s wrecking bar in the process and never forgave the process(not people). The new block followed shortly after beside Stripes. Again led by Phil with brothers John and Pete providing the chippy and brickie expertise with the rest of us labouring. The cast iron turnstiles arrived on a flat bed truck from somewhere oop north from a ground that had closed/modernised. Sorry. Not sure of year, I’m sure Clive will remember and correct me. . Great information, thank you. Although you can't remember the year, could you have a stab at the decade? 60s? 70? ....?

www.cheritonroad.co.uk/ now updated to include: - Details of turnstiles mentioned above - Dugout / Stripes / Red & White bar refurbishment - Fireworks display (thanks Ade Dawkes) On the subject of turnstiles, there seems to have been a lot of updates to the facilities / infrastructure of the ground recently. If anyone hears that the turnstiles (the metal / mechanical rotating bits) are to be replaced, please let me know as I'd be interested in obtaining the turnstiles for historical purposes. Clearly I would be picking them up.

I used to get some help from the club regarding photographs & information, both of which I was very grateful for. But recently it appears to be silence, or you-can't-do-that. I've really no idea why - my website takes a fairly neutral stance on the rights & wrongs of the club (ditto my social media) - very fence sitting compared to some of the views on here & elsewhere.

The red brick Turnstiles on the main road by the bus stop were certainly used in the early 90s (up to about 93 I think) manned by Sid Burvill second in command Reg (can't remember his surname) After 93 I think they were only used infrequently on bigger games. Most games Reg and his successors took up residency in the tennis court attendants hut next to the gate next to the old PA box. Think the turnstiles were used for the West Ham game in 96. Can't say for sure if they were ever used after that. The side door of Stripes was used as a turnstile after that.

Thanks for the updates, particularly the turnstiles. Looks like I'm >25 years too late to make a bid on some old turnstiles! Anyway, the turnstiles info added to the website under www.cheritonroad.co.uk/1990Additionally I've taken my own photos of the Dugout / Stripes / Red & White bar, & added to www.cheritonroad.co.uk/2020-present

As always, if anyone has some information on the ground infrastructure over the years I'm always grateful for any useful snippets.
