Surprising what you find when you have time to tidy up the garage.

As a bit of a johnny-come-lately to Folkestone football (1982!), when did Black & Amber arrive? Greta video by the way: No ground advertising; no stripes / Bar Invicta; floodlight behind the goal; cavernous main stand; Grandad stand before rust was invented Any idea on the exact year?

Folkestone played in Black and Amber prior to 1970 probably only played in Red and white for about 5 years, won Kent Senior Cup against Margate I think in 1972, I know names of some of the players and have access to some programs of around that time, How about a competition to see who can name the most a donation say £5 to go fund me page for a guess? I have another old clip which I will post if we exceed the present target.

Correction Folkestone won the Kent Senior cup 4-2 against Margate in 1969 ( won 4-0 at Folkestone lost 2-0 at Margate) I think we were playing in Red and white then.

Cochran in goal, I think 9 Biggs, 8 Ballagher 4 Thurgood 7 Leslie 2 Russell 10 ?bostock also a tredwell and Bobby bell. I guess Ken Pearce is there somewhere.
the concrete and fixing bolt are still visible behind the goals where the floodlight stanchions were.
wasn't the old wooden grandstand dark and dismal.
Seasiders is a step up from the old tea and pie caravan in front of the parked cars.

Ken Pearce No 5 best Centre Half since Bill Patrick hung his boots up. Alf Parish provided the PA, Johnny Grout the half time refreshments. Lock Down must have unlocked the old grey matter!

Yes Micky Cook, Graham Archell, Micky Shovelar, Keith Burton, Trevor Pearce, and Pat Terry all played around that time (Short term memory may be a bit dodgy but no problem with yesteryear)

I think if it was January John the floodlights would have been on by the end of the match.
interesting photo Duncan, wonder where they house the show ponies now?

When I mentioned no goals that’s not to say that was the final score so it was possibly the same game. That horse show didn’t do the pitch any favours but even div one clubs played on mud!

Further to my photo above, over the years I've been gathering photos with the intention of creating a website for the history of the ground. Here's a selection (from too many sources to credit here) from 1920s, 1946 & 1972 If anyone has old photos of the ground that I could have, then that would be greatly appreciated. I'm low on content from the 1930s, 1950s & 1960s. Taking me a while to create the website mind........

Catching up with the forum for the first time in at least a couple of weeks. What a find - and what wouldn't we give for a crowd that size now? I would almost certainly have been one of them. I do indeed remember the old wooden grandstand because when my dad used to take me that was where we watched from, and it was indeed dark and probably quite dismal - but to me back then it was very special. By the time of this video though I would have been going on my own and behind whichever goal we were kicking into. I really liked that early 70's team - a lot of characters and we were pretty good as well; never liked the red and white kit though.

Here are some of the players that played while we were clad in red & white , ALBERT COCHRAN -KEN PEARCE -PAT TERRY who seemed to stay in the air forever -MICKY SHOVELER -MICKY COOK clever player who used to juggle the ball endlessly for our entertainment -JEFF IDLE-TREVER PEARCE went to ARSENAL -DAVID BIBBY -TONY BIGGS my favorite ,described in the daily paper as the best header of the ball outside the league,-JOHNY BALLAGER -goal machine who once scored 40 goals for Margate in one season -ALAN RUSSELL scored 6 goals for us against Maidstone-JOHN LESLEY ,played while stationed at shorncliffe--BOBBY BELL -pulled his shorts down after crowd gave him some stick. -There are more but me old memory aint what it used to be .Alf Parish was the p a man ,always pissed by the time he got to the ground so you never understood what he was trying to say . They were the days when we had a large clock on the grandad stand which i used to activate at the start of play and at beginning of half time , with a long pole . Happy days No doubt PILCH could enlighten you even more .

Just watched the first video - no wonder the ball was still white at the end, most of the game seemed to be headers!

Any idea when they original 1958 floodlights were replaced? I have 1972 photos that show the behind goals ones gone, but the sets of 4 on either side of the ground are still there. Also when were the current changing rooms built? Same time as the roofed Wilf armory stand (1974)? Still working on a website about the ground history........

The two pylons on the side of the pitch were definitely there until atleast 1990.
